Surgical consult & Paed appointments

On Tuesday we traveled to Brisbane to meet with the surgical panel to discuss Rebecca's cleft.
there was 6 people in the room, plastic surgeon, speech pathologist, Dentist, Orthodontest, nurse, psycoligist,
they said that it is a clean cleft, and should be easily fixed with minimal complications
Rebecca is now on the waiting list, and should have the surgery between 6-9 months of age.
should spend 2-3 days in hospital and wont be able to suck anything for 2 weeks.
will need to use a special teat(called a witches hat)and use squeeze bottles
also poor darling will have to wear arm splints for 2 long long weeks. nothing is to go in her mouth, the splints will stop fingers and toys going into her mouth.
say bye-bye to the dummy.

while we were in the hospital, we also met with the ear nose & throat doctor.
95% of cleft babies need gromits, so prior to her surgery we will go back to the hospital and get her hearing checked and see if she will need those gromits, if so, they will be inserted at the same time as her cleft surgery, which will miniamise the need for another anesthetic.
hoping we are in the 5% of babies that dont need gromits :)

on Wednesday we had an appointment with the paeditrician
Dr Carmen was happy with Rebecca's progress
she is 10 weeks,
weight 5.820kgs - 75th %
61 & half cm long - 90th %
HC 38.3cm - 35th %

i had to get a poop scraping for lab testing, last few days its been mucusy, he thinks it might be related to those pesky teeth, but getting it tested to be sure.
